51 (50) Miserere

1 Al maestro del coro. Salmo. Di Davide.

2 Quando venne da lui il profeta Natan dopo che aveva peccato con Betsabea.

3 Pietà di me, o Dio, secondo la tua misericordia; nella tua grande bontà cancella il mio peccato. 4 Lavami da tutte le mie colpe, mondami dal mio peccato. 5 Riconosco la mia colpa, il mio peccato mi sta sempre dinanzi.

6 Contro di te, contro te solo ho peccato, quello che è male ai tuoi occhi, io l’ho fatto; perciò sei giusto quando parli, retto nel tuo giudizio.

7 Ecco, nella colpa sono stato generato, nel peccato mi ha concepito mia madre. 8 Ma tu vuoi la sincerità del cuore e nell’intimo m’insegni la sapienza. 9 Purificami con issopo e sarò mondo; lavami e sarò più bianco della neve.

10 Fammi sentire gioia e letizia, esulteranno le ossa che hai spezzato. 11 Distogli lo sguardo dai miei peccati, cancella tutte le mie colpe. 12 Crea in me, o Dio, un cuore puro, rinnova in me uno spirito saldo.

13 Non respingermi dalla tua presenza e non privarmi del tuo santo spirito. 14 Rendimi la gioia di essere salvato, sostieni in me un animo generoso. 15 Insegnerò agli erranti le tue vie e i peccatori a te ritorneranno.

16 Liberami dal sangue, Dio, Dio mia salvezza, la mia lingua esalterà la tua giustizia. 17 Signore, apri le mie labbra e la mia bocca proclami la tua lode; 18 poiché non gradisci il sacrificio e, se offro olocausti, non li accetti.

19 Uno spirito contrito è sacrificio a Dio, un cuore affranto e umiliato, Dio, tu non disprezzi. 20 Nel tuo amore fa grazia a Sion, rialza le mura di Gerusalemme. 21 Allora gradirai i sacrifici prescritti, l’olocausto e l’intera oblazione, allora immoleranno vittime sopra il tuo altare.

Psalm 51

51 (50) Miserere

2 When the prophet Nathan came to him after he had sinned with Bath-sheba.

3 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your mercy; in your great goodness erase my sin. 4 Wash me from all my sins, cleanse me from my sin. 5 I recognize my guilt, my sin is always before me.

6 Against you, against you alone I have sinned, what is evil in your eyes, I have done; therefore you are righteous when you speak, righteous in your judgment.

7 Behold, in guilt I was begotten, in sin my mother conceived me. 8 But you want sincerity of heart and within you teach me wisdom. 9 Purify me with hyssop and I will be world; wash me and I’ll be whiter than snow.

10 Let me feel joy and gladness, the bones you have broken will rejoice. 11 Take your eyes off my sins, blot out all my sins. 12 Create in me, O God, a pure heart, renew a steadfast spirit in me.

13 Do not reject me from your presence and do not deprive me of your holy spirit. 14 Give me the joy of being saved, sustain a generous spirit in me. 15 I will teach the wanderers your ways, and sinners will return to you.

16 Deliver me from blood, God, God my salvation, my tongue will exalt your righteousness. 17 Lord, open my lips and my mouth proclaim your praise; 18 for you do not like sacrifice, and if I offer burnt offerings, you do not accept them.

19 A contrite spirit is a sacrifice to God, a broken and humiliated heart, God, you do not despise. 20 In your love, give grace to Zion, build up the walls of Jerusalem. 21 Then you will enjoy the prescribed sacrifices, the burnt offering and the entire offering, then they will sacrifice victims on your altar.
